Pitzer Galleries' Curator Selected for European Seminar
Claremont, Calif. (August 10, 2009) — Ciara Ennis, curator and director of the Pitzer Art Galleries, is one of 19 curators awarded a seat at the Third Annual European Course for Contemporary Art Curators. The 10-day event will be held in Milan, Italy from October 1-10, 2009.
The course, led by Urlich Loock, former director of Kunsthalle Bern, Museum of Art Lucerne and Museu Serralves in Porto, will focus on building an extensive overview exhibition. The participants will discuss the implementation of an exhibition in all its aspects: focus, goal, historical pertinence, choice of artists/works/contributions, museological method, installation, publication, etc.
"It's an honor to be chosen to attend this course in Milan. I look forward to working with other curators and arts professionals in Europe and to participating in rigorous debate about the state of contemporary curating here and abroad," said Ennis.
"This is a tremendous honor as Ciara Ennis richly deserves this marvelous opportunity. I am confidant that she will bring a valuable perspective to her work in Milan and Pitzer College will benefit from her experience," said Laura Skandera Trombley, president of Pitzer College.
Ciara Ennis has been the director/curator of the Pitzer Art Galleries since fall 2007. Under her leadership, Pitzer has secured ten site specific shows. Prior to Pitzer, Ennis served as associate curator at Santa Monica Museum of Art and project director at the Museum of Contemporary Art, Los Angeles.
