Pitzer College Receives Grant to Help Fund Construction of New Residence Halls

Claremont, Calif. (November 16, 2004) — Pitzer College has received a $200,000 grant to help fund the construction of residence halls on campus from The Arthur Vining Davis Foundation. The construction of new residence halls will strengthen life inside and outside the classroom by creating a vital and vigorous residential community and linking living and learning.

Pitzer's new campus master plan is intended to promote social and intellectual interaction amongst the community. The College's unique liberal arts tradition and distinctive educational objectives are enhanced by a residential and living community where the boundaries are blurred.

Executive Director of The Arthur Vining Davis Foundations Jonathan T. Howe said, "We are pleased that the Trustees have decided to support Pitzer College in this way, and wish you every success with your efforts to enhance students' living accommodations on campus."

"We are very pleased that Pitzer College has the strong support of the AVD Foundations regarding our residence hall living and learning project. The College community is excited about the transformative nature of the largest construction project since our founding and is glad to have the endorsement of the AVD Foundations," said Pitzer College President Laura Skandera Trombley.

Pitzer College is in the first phase of its residence hall project that will add 312 beds, which is projected to be completed by the fall of 2007. There will be two additional phases that will take place during the next decade.
