Upcoming Events!
California Wilderness Coalition
Information Session:
(Open to all Students)
Wednesday, November 28, 2007
12:00 p.m.
Mead Living Room, Pitzer College
The California
Wilderness Coalition is the only organization dedicated to
protecting California's
wild places and native biodiversity on a statewide level. Through
advocacy and public education, CWC builds support for threatened
wild places, from oak woodlands to ancient forests and deserts.
Right now, they are focusing their efforts in
Southern California on protecting desert wilderness.
Significant threats to cultural, recreational, and biological
resources on both private and public lands in the
California
desert remain and new ones arise every day. Despite the breadth of
the legislative protections afforded by the 1994 California Desert
Protection Act, these protections only apply to 40% of the region's
public lands, and have not yet been completely realized.
They are looking
for students who want to make a difference on environmental issues
and gain experience in the political arena. Volunteer projects and
internships include archaeological and biological monitoring,
invasive plant removal, organizing educational hikes, camping trips,
letter-writing drives, and outreach events. Students can join us for
a single event or outing, or apply to be an intern. Interns
generally commit anywhere from 2 to 10 hours per week and work
closely with CWC staff, as well as other experts and government
agency staff.
For more information attend their information session or
contact Career Services, Pitzer College.
Teach for America
Information Session:
(Open to all Students)
Wednesday, December 5, 2007
7:00 p.m.
Mead Living Room, Pitzer College
Teach For America is the national corps of outstanding and diverse
recent college graduates of all academic majors who commit two years
to teach in under-resourced urban and rural public schools. After
their two years, our alumni bring their unique perspective and
experience to many fields. Over 1,000 corps members reach more than
100,000 students in rural and urban areas around the country. After
an intensive selection process and summer training program, corps
members are placed in one of thirteen sites, where they serve as
regular full-time teachers while remaining part of national and
regional support networks.
Take this
opportunity to learn more about the program and the upcoming
application process.
