Whitcomb, Susan Britton.
Resume Magic:  Trade Secrets of a Professional Resume   Writer.  2nd ed., Canada: Jist Publishing. 2003.

Now is an important time of year especially for seniors and juniors as you begin to pursue such objectives as finding a job and researching internships.  Resumes are important in this process so this month’s focus is on one of the standard career guides in the profession for writing resumes. From the Magic Series by Jist Publishing comes Resume Magic: Trade Secrets of a Professional Resume Writer.  Susan Whitcomb considers what a resume is in her opening chapters and says “it’s much more than a summary of whom you worked for and what you did.”  It’s also “an advertisement that appeals to employers’ specific needs; a formal business communication that indicates your command of vocabulary, punctuation and grammar; a keyword index that represents your knowledge base; and finally, a unique art form that combines font-work, layout, and design principles to create a definitive visual appeal.”

With this book as your guide, you can write a successful resume.  And remember, when you are done, bring it in to Career Services and have one of our professionals review it with you to complete the writing process!
