Stephanie Velasco Poserio, CAPAS Director
Stephanie
Velasco Poserio began as the inaugural coordinator for CAPAS in 2002 through the Irvine Diversity grant. Her motivation
for working was “the challenge of institutionalizing a center that was created for students who felt marginalized and
underrepresented.” In spring 2005, CAPAS was successfully institutionalized at Pitzer College and Stephanie became
the Director.
Stephanie received a B.A. in Asian American Studies and a B.A. in Social Sciences from the University of California, Irvine
and an Ed.M. in Higher Education Administration from Harvard Graduate School of Education. She also served in various humanitarian
projects in China, Japan, and Trinidad. During her time at Pitzer, she led a team of young professionals to work with college
students in Kyrgyzstan and participated in a two month fellowship in the Philippines. She was also nominated by Pitzer President
Laura Trombley as an ACE (American Council on Education) Fellow and recognized as a “Filipina Who Should Be President Award”
by the Filipina Women's Network in San Francisco. Stephanie enjoys an active lifestyle including travelling, cooking, reading,
and spending time with family.
