In 1990, the month of May was designated as APA Heritage Month to commemorate the immigration of the first Japanese to the US on May 7, 1843, and to mark the anniversary of the completion of the largely built transcontinental railroad on May 10, 1869. Based on the academic calendar of The Claremont Colleges, the APA Heritage Month is celebrated in the month of April.
