Support the Annual Fund today!
You hear so often about the crucial need for Annual Fund support because Pitzer literally can’t survive without it. It’s clear where the College’s dollars can make the biggest impact – financial aid. This year the College is providing scholarships to roughly 50% of the student body, resulting in 24% less cumulative average debt than just four years ago. So much of this progress is due to Annual Fund support. Now more than ever the world needs what Pitzer has to offer. We ask that you consider a donation to the 2008-2009 Annual Fund at Pitzer College as an investment to support the mission of the College and as a positive response to our future leaders – our students. Your contribution, regardless of the amount, is critical to our continued success.
In bringing students and faculty together with community-based organizations like the Pomona Economic Opportunity Center, Pitzer College teaches its students to use the strengths of diversity, critical pedagogy, participatory action research, and service learning to work on common issues and to create social change.
This type of civic engagement takes us beyond the traditional top-down models of “community service” to the level at which students and faculty join community participants in using research, teaching, and learning to create more democratic structures and to bring about fundamental social change. At the same time, this participatory style provides a meaningful and practical means for building bridges between students, faculty, and community participants from diverse backgrounds. Pitzer students contribute over 100,000 hours to community service annually.
