Pitzer College is calling upon alumni and friends to help honor the memories and significance of the old Sanborn residence hall site by making a gift in honor of the cherished memories Pitzer holds. Old Sanborn hall was named in honor of Flora Sanborn Pitzer, the first wife of the College’s founder, Russell K. Pitzer. It was one of the first two buildings on the Pitzer College campus. It became the beloved home of generations of Pitzer students.
The original building was demolished in 2008 and was replaced by the beautiful new Sanborn Hall, which proudly sits today among the College’s Gold LEED certified green residence halls on the northeast side of campus.

On the original Sanborn site today’s students enjoy a recreation area with outdoor basketball and sand volleyball courts. The central and northern points of the site have been transformed into a beautifully landscaped plaza for both student orientation and commencement ceremonies. In true Pitzer style, the plaza features sustainable landscaping and benches with murals and artwork by students and alumni.
