FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Utah Phillips to Appear in Concert at Pitzer College Claremont, Calif. (April 16, 2002) – Folk artist U. Utah Phillips will appear in concert at 8 p.m. Thursday, May 2, at Pitzer College's Avery Auditorium. The concert will be Phillips' only Los Angeles-area appearance. Pitzer's Artist-in-Residence from April 30 to May 3, the self-described "Golden Voice of the Great Southwest" was nominated for a Grammy Award in 2000 for his work with Ani DiFranco on "Fellow Workers," which was up for Best Contemporary Folk Album. Phillips also plays host to a weekly radio show, "Loafer's Glory: The Hobo Jungle of the Mind." Phillips, a member of the Industrial Workers of the World (IWW), has been described as a true eclectic, wordsmith, archivist, historian, activist, philosopher, gadabout, hobo and tramp.
