Campus News 2003-2004 Academic Year

Senior Gift Breaks Record

(Updated June 9, 2004)

Record breaking success!! The class of 2004 successfully reached 95.7% participation for their Senior Gift campaign! The 5-C competition came to a close on May 3rd, with Pitzer missing first place by just .1%. The seniors had a tremendous fundraising year, which was made possible with the help of the entire Pitzer community. Susan Andrews (Executive Assistant to the President for Marketing & Planning), Jim Marchant (Dean of Students), Alexander Sprague `91, and Professor Linus Yamane all challenged the seniors to reach the highest participation Pitzer has ever seen.

In addition, Chris Freeburg (Associate Dean of Student Affairs) made good on his promise to wear a three-piece suit to Commencement once the class reached 85% participation. Once the class reached 90% participation, Nelson Trombley (Curator, Nichols Gallery) sat in the dining hall while Senior Gift committee members colored his hair bright orange. Seniors, faculty, and staff all gathered to witness Nelson's spirited sacrifice in support of the class of 2004. Once the class reached 95% participation, Alan Jones (Dean of Faculty) showed his support by shaving his beard for the first time in 30 years.

Congratulations to the class of 2004 for a remarkable Senior Gift.
