Meet Our Diversity Staff

Constance Perez, Assistant Director of Admission
Constance grew up in Los Angeles, California, and graduated from Ramona Convent Secondary School in Alhambra, California. She is an alumna of Pitzer and earned her degrees in Political Studies and English and World Literature. During her time as a student she was Head Delegate of the Pitzer-Pomona Model United Nations team, served on Student Senate and volunteered with incarcerated youth through the Center for California Cultural and Social Issues. Outside of work, Constance enjoys baking, reading and spending time with her family and friends. Constance’s recruitment territories include: Colorado, New Mexico, and Southern California (Los Angeles, San Gabriel Valley, Riverside County) and parts of the Bay Area (San Jose, Palo Alto, Monterey and Marin).

Fernando Calderon, Graduate Admission Fellow
Fernando was raised in Pomona, California and attended Ganesha High School. An alumnus of Pitzer, he earned his degree in Sociology. He is currently pursuing his Master’s degree in Higher Education with an emphasis in educational reform and effectiveness at Claremont Graduate University. While a student at Pitzer, Fernando served as a Resident Assistant and a first-year student mentor. He also served as a sexual harassment peer counselor for the Office of Student Affairs, and served on the Sexual Harassment Hearing and Judicial Council. During his senior year, Fernando was selected to participate in the Pomona College theatre production of Zoot Suit and played the role of Enrique Reyna. During his free time, Fernando enjoys spending time with his family and friends, reading, collecting Calvin and Hobbes comic strips, watching Friends, and listening to music.

Jose Barriga ’12, Diversity Intern
Born and raised in Los Angeles, Jose attended Cantwell-Sacred Heart of Mary High School in Montebello, California. While in high school, Jose volunteered at Aids Project Los Angeles and interned at the Los Angeles Weekly. Jose is a double major in English and World Literature and Spanish, and will be graduating as a member of the Class of 2012. At Pitzer, he is involved with the Latino Student Union and other clubs. This summer Jose will be participating in Pitzer's Global-Local Initiative Program and will spend two months in Costa Rica studying the educational system. Jose is also a tour guide for the Office of Admission. In his spare time Jose enjoys reading, watching TV, playing volleyball, and is an avid fan of his idol, Anderson Cooper.

Maricela Ledezma ’11, Diversity Intern
Maricela was born in Fountain Valley, California but raised in Querétaro, México and La Habra, CA. A member of the Class of 2011, she is a double major in Neuroscience and Psychology. Maricela is a Fabian Nuñez Scholar and a Gates Millennium Scholar. At Pitzer she has been involved in Student Senate as Secretary, as a sponsor for incoming first-year students and has been a member of various clubs on campus. Outside of Claremont, she is an interpreter for doctors and patients at Western University of Health Sciences in the city of Pomona and is an intern at Queen of the Valley Hospital in West Covina. In her spare time, Maricela loves spending time with friends and family, reading, dancing and learning to cook her mom’s delicious recipes. Maricela plans to earn an M.D. degree and practice in the field of neurology or pediatrics.

Alyshia Silva ’12, Diversity Intern
Originally from Los Angeles, California, Alyshia is currently a sophomore at Pitzer College. She participated in many high school organizations like Yearbook and Student Council, and was elected Head Representative of Club Ambato, a non-profit organization dedicated to raising funds over $20,000 for a school in the rural village of Ambato, Ecuador. These experiences led her to her current studies, Anthropology and Environmental Studies. Alyshia plans on going to graduate school after she graduates from Pitzer. Alyshia is also a member of PAct (Pitzer Activities), is an avid writer, and has been published in poetry books and newspapers.
