Fall 2009 Diversity Program Frequently Asked Questions

Pitzer College seeks to enroll students whose backgrounds and experiences offer varying perspectives on living and learning in a multicultural world.  In order to accomplish this, we offer this program to encourage students to visit, apply, and enroll at Pitzer College.

Who is eligible?

High school seniors from underrepresented racial and ethnic backgrounds from the 48 continental United States are eligible for this program.

Who is accepted?

Approximately 40 high school seniors will be invited to an expense-paid visit to Pitzer College.

How do I know if my application was received?

Once you apply online, you will be redirected to a confirmation page notifying you that your application has been received.  You should also receive an email from Jose Barriga, one of our Diversity Interns, within 24 hours. If you do not receive an email, we did not receive your application.

When will I be notified if I have been selected for the Diversity Program?

The deadline to apply for the fall program is Friday, October 9. The Office of Admission will not make any decisions until after the deadline. You should expect to have an answer by Friday, October 16.

What will I do during the Diversity Program?

As a participant in the fall Diversity Program, you will attend the Pitzer Preview Day on Friday, November 6, 2009.  Additionally, you will stay in the residence halls with a current student, learn about the admission selection process and learn how to apply for financial aid.  You will also have the chance to meet with coaches, faculty, staff, student mentors, and, if you would like, have an interview with an admission officer or representative.

Will the program cover the other Claremont Colleges?

While there will be a scavenger hunt covering the other Claremont Colleges, this program is for students who are interested in Pitzer College.

Why should I apply?

The Diversity Program allows students who might not otherwise have the means to visit Pitzer an opportunity to experience our campus community.

Does attending the Diversity Program increase my chances of being admitted to Pitzer?

Pitzer is holistic in its admission approach. A variety of factors are taken into account by the Admission staff. Attending this program is not a guarantee of admission.

I cannot attend the program. Are there other opportunities to visit campus?

Unfortunately, we are not able to offer other expense-paid options outside of the Diversity Program. For other opportunities to visit, click here.

Who do I contact if I have more questions?
