Pitzer College and The Claremont Colleges

The Claremont Colleges in California, including Claremont McKenna College, Harvey Mudd College, Pitzer College, Pomona College, Scripps College, the Claremont Graduate University (with its Peter F. Drucker and Masatoshi Ito Graduate School of Management), and the Keck Institute for Applied Life Sciences, are consistently ranked among the best such institutions in the U.S. Each has its own faculty, curricular emphasis, distinctive style, and mission, yet they have adjoining campuses in a beautiful, park-like setting, and cooperate to provide the services and facilities of a large university.

There are 5,000 students at The Claremont Colleges. Approximately 2,500 courses are offered to students in the consortium each year through cross-registration. In keeping with the goal of small classes and faculty:student ratios, Pitzer College has 950 students.

As a dynamic younger member of The Claremont Colleges, Pitzer offers a curriculum that spans 40 major fields and focuses on interdisciplinary and intercultural educational with an emphasis on social responsibility and community service. Blending classroom instruction with fieldwork, Pitzer engages a student's mind, heart and spirit by integrating educational resources on campus, abroad and in the local community.

In keeping with its 1960’s heritage, Pitzer strives to enhance individual growth while building community. Students create their own academic programs in close collaboration with faculty advisers. Pitzer is also known for the quality of its programs for international students, and, in particular, its learner-centered Program in American College English.
