Getting Started - For Students from Other Colleges and Universities
Academic Credit
A Pitzer semester abroad is generally equivalent in terms of credit earned to a semester at a U.S. college or university with four courses (16 semester units; 24 quarter units) being the normal award for a semester’s work. Before choosing to participate, you should understand your home campus policy for awarding credit and translating grades from a Pitzer study abroad program.
Upon completion of the program, grades will be submitted to the Pitzer College Registrar’s Office, where they will be recorded on an official Pitzer transcript and sent to your home campus. Transcripts are generally available about two months after the program ends with the exception of transcripts from spring programs in Nepal, and Ecuador, which can be delayed for an additional month.

Planning Ahead
Here are some helpful tips to streamline the application process:
You can’t leave the USA without a passport. If you don’t already have one or if your current passport will expire fewer than 6 months after the end of your program, apply or renew now. For information on obtaining a passport visit http://travel.state.gov/passport/passport_1738.html.
Visit the study abroad or international programs office at your school. You must often meet internal deadlines at your school to be eligible to receive credit for a study abroad program. Your faculty adviser or study abroad adviser must sign the Course Pre-Registration and Approval Form.
An official transcript is required for the application. Request that an official copy from your registrar be sent to:

The Pitzer application includes a health report. This form is not required until you are accepted, but you may want to plan ahead and have the form completed at your next medical check-up.
Many schools allow you to apply your financial aid funds to a study abroad program. Check with your study abroad office for specifics. A helpful Website for information on scholarships specific to international study is available at
