Program Title: Pitzer Exchange based at Federal University of Roraima
Location: Boa Vista, Brazil

Eligibility: One year of Portuguese language study or completion of Spanish 44 and an independent study in Portuguese language. Permission by Professor Leda Martins is required. Students must be in good standing at Pitzer College. Preference will be given to juniors and first semester seniors.
Preparation: At least one Latin American area studies course, preferably with content on Brazil, and coursework in anthropology are required before departure in addition to the language requirement. Other general preparation options include: Comparative Politics, Intercultural Communications, Introduction to International/ Intercultural Studies, Introduction to Sociocultural Anthropology
Application: Pitzer College general application and the forms required by the university.
Program Dates: Fall Semester: July to December
Offered Fall semester only.
Course Options: This program consists of a required set of courses including Portuguese language study, culture studies and an independent study project.
Credit Possible: Successful completion of all program components results in four Pitzer course credits.
Housing Options: Students are housed with host families who also provide meals.
Advising notes: Two students can be accepted for this special opportunity, funded by a National Science Foundation Grant received by Professor Martins. Students interested in this program should consult closely with a Study Abroad Advisor in the International Programs Office for more information.
