Here is a sampling of the various volunteer internships that may be available to you through Pitzer College:

ABILITY FIRST

About: Ability First provides programs and services for children and adults with disabilities. Their mission is to help people with disabilities realize their full potential throughout their lives.
Pre-requisite(s): Pass Tuberculin test and fill out volunteer application from Ability First
Tasks/Responsibilities: Working with students and adults with developmental disabilities. Assisting Ability First staff with events and programs.

RANCHO SANTA ANA BOTANICAL GARDEN

About: Rancho Santa Ana Botanical Garden is the largest botanical garden dedicated exclusively to conserving the incredible diversity of California’s native plants and flowers.
Pre-requisite(s): Meet with Volunteer coordinator and fill out Rancho Santa Ana Botanical Gardens application.
Tasks/Responsibilities: Work alongside gardeners, learn about the plants. Outdoor projects in the garden, staining gazebos, laying pea gravel, watering, weeding, clearing branches, and other such tasks.

CLAREMONT COMMUNITY FOUNDATION

About: The Claremont Community Foundation, was established in 1989 to serve the long-term philanthropic needs of the Claremont community by supporting local projects and activities in the arts, culture and society of the Claremont community.
Pre-Requisite(s): Meet with Volunteer coordinator of the foundation. Fill out short volunteer profile.
Tasks/Responsibilities: General administrative duties such as answering phones, filing, copying, assisting with projects, and/or computer help if the volunteer has advanced computer skills.

FOOTHILL AIDS PROJECT

About: The Foothill AIDS Project seeks to improve the lives of those affected by or at risk for HIV/AIDS through comprehensive support services and to help prevent HIV infections through education and outreach.
Pre-Requisite(s): Fill out volunteer application and bring in before volunteering. Pass Tuberculin test and sign confidentiality agreement.
Tasks/Responsibilities: Work in several different areas: fundraising, office work (filing, copying, answering phones), contacting patients, organizing events.

AMERICAN RED CROSS

About: The American Red Cross serves local community needs — helping people in emergencies, providing half the nation's blood supply, teaching first aid and CPR courses, delivering emergency messages to members of the military, organizing programs for the community.
Pre-Requisite(s): Fill out volunteer application, then bring in and meet with Chapter coordinator.
Tasks/Responsibilities: Office work (filing, copying, answering phones), data entry, marketing.

PILGRIM PLACE

About: Pilgrim Place is a Christian Professional Retirement Community of choice for independent living, assisted living, and skilled nursing for Christian ministers, church workers and church professionals, missionaries, YWCA & YMCA Executives, among many others.
Pre-Requisite(s): Fill out a volunteer application and pass a Tuberculin test, then meet with Volunteer Coordinator.
Tasks/Responsibilities: Work with Activity Coordinator for Health Services Center (for those in assisted living). Help with events and activities, games, social hours.

JOSLYN SENIOR CITIZEN CENTER

About: The Joslyn Senior Citizen Center provides a variety of social services to senior citizens in the Claremont Community.
Pre-Requisite(s): Fill out volunteer application and meet with Volunteer Coordinator.
Tasks/Responsibilities: Work with senior citizens, serve lunches, work on different celebrations and events

OAKMONT ELEMENTARY SCHOOL

About: Oakmont Elementary School is a public school in the Claremont School District for children grades 1-6 (ages 6-12 yrs. old)
Pre-Requisite(s): Inform Todd of intention to volunteer at Oakmont.
Tasks/Responsibilities: Work in classroom with primary school age children (6-12 yrs). Assist teacher in different ways (help with assignments, work with small groups, etc.).
